The pressure of our current economic climate has affected us all including the publishing industry. Conventional publishing is generally regarded as high risk. As a result, books generally have to be considered to have a mass market potential. This means that the focus tends to be on previously published authors with a successful track record and/or well-known names, particularly from celebrity culture.

First Yvs are different. Manuscripts are judged on their own merits. We encourage creativity and seek inspirational authors with the ability to emotionally engage readers. However, emotional engagement excludes explicit or offensive material.

HOW TO SUBMIT

Step One: Your Publishing Enquiry

Initially, please send us, an email containing:

• A brief synopsis of your book.

• Cover letter with total word count, brief synopsis, and applicable publishing credits, if previously published.

It would be very helpful if you would tell us how you were referred to Firstyvs e.g. Personal recommendation, a national newspaper, an internet browser, etc.


Step Two: Submitting your Manuscript

Following your initial publishing enquiry, if you would like to proceed and submit your work for consideration:

Each manuscript submission e-mail must include the following items:

File 1. (file name: last name-title-cover) i.e. Taylor- The Journey Of A Lab Rat-cover.doc

File 2 .(file name: last name-title-sub) i.e. Taylor- The Journey Of A Lab Rat-sub.doc

One of the electronic files must contain the full manuscript including any illustrations in standard format.  (see next page)
      

Standard Manuscript format

File saved in Word format (.doc) or (.rtf)
A4

Arial, Calibri , Tahoma or Verdana 18pt font/black ink
1-inch (2.5 cm) margin on all sides/ double line spacing

Align text left, do not justify (aligning text both left and right)

Header containing title, author name and page number

Capital letters at the beginning of sentences and proper nouns

We will endeavour to acknowledge receipt of your manuscript within 24 hours of submission. A full reply of our proposals and recommendations (including formative, constructive feedback) will be emailed back to the author within one month of initial submission.
